Manual Lymph Drainage in Melbourne, FL

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a very gentle, intentionally directed method that supports the movement of lymphatic fluid toward the lymph nodes to be processed. It’s designed to encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid through the body’s filtering system—supporting comfort, recovery, and overall wellness.
We’re located in Melbourne, FL and serve clients from Palm Bay, Rockledge, Titusville and Viera.
What is the Lymphatic System?
In simplest terms, the lymphatic system is a network of vessels, nodes, and organs that works as part of the immune system. It carries lymph fluid that is rich in infection-fighting white blood cells throughout the body, while also helping rid the body of waste and excess fluid. It helps maintain fluid balance all over the body.
When this system is disrupted by surgery, injury, or infection, it can get bogged down and fluid may accumulate.
We move fluid!
Lymph can only move in one direction—upward, toward the neck—where it reenters the circulatory system via the subclavian veins. Because the lymphatic system does not have a pump like the heart, lymph fluid depends on muscle contractions to move through the lymphatic vessels. This is one reason swelling can increase after inactivity, standing for long periods, or post-surgery when movement is limited for healing.
Manual lymph drainage supports the lymphatic system by helping move fluid through the vessels so it can reenter the circulatory system and excess fluid can be eliminated through the urinary system.

MLD is not massage
MLD is not massage. It is a set of specific techniques that works to encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid. It is a systemic, rhythmic method of purposefully stretching the skin to increase the flow of lymph fluid through the body’s filtering system.
(You may also hear people call this “lymphatic drainage massage,” but MLD uses a distinct, gentle approach.)
Benefits of Manual Lymph Drainage in Melbourne, FL
For many people, the main benefits of MLD include helping reduce edema and inflammation and supporting healthy lymph flow during recovery.
MLD may also be helpful for clients who experience pain and inflammation related to chronic or autoimmune conditions. When pain leads to immobility, lymph flow can slow—because muscle contraction is one of the biggest movers of lymph. Supporting lymph flow may help reduce the load on the system and support comfort and recovery.
Manual lymph drainage is often sought for support with:
- Immune system health
- Digestive function
- Bloating and constipation
- Pain syndromes
- Surgical recovery
- Swelling & edema
Post-surgery manual lymph drainage in Melbourne, FL
Manual lymph drainage is commonly used post-surgery to support comfort and recovery. Volume reduction is often a goal, with pre- and post-treatment measurements taken before and after a series.
People often seek MLD post-surgery to support:
- Reduced bruising
- Reduced swelling
- Less pain and increased comfort
- Support for the healing phase
Research also suggests MLD may help prevent unwanted fluid buildup such as seromas and help address lumps and bumps that can occur during the healing process.
Important: Timing depends on your surgeon’s recommendations. We always defer to physician guidance.
When should I start?
When should I start?
Determining how soon post-surgery you should receive manual lymph drainage depends on what your surgeon recommends. Typically, it’s after drains are removed to ensure there are no risks of infection and you are cleared to receive this type of therapy.
It’s helpful to plan ahead—we typically like to see clients as soon as possible, often 2 times per week for the first 2–3 weeks, depending on your situation and symptoms.
How often will I need sessions?
The rate at which you receive MLD depends on:
- The type of surgery
- The scope of affected areas
- The significance of swelling and pain
- Your symptoms and how your body responds
On average, most people need a minimum of 5–10 sessions to allow the lymphatic system to catch back up and maintain on its own (more or less depending on your situation).
Will it hurt?
Manual lymph drainage is extremely gentle and almost always feels relieving, relaxing, and enjoyable. It should not hurt or cause pain or bruising. MLD is designed to move superficial fluid that can accumulate during the healing phase post-surgery.

Scar Release Therapy
Scar release therapy is used to improve the appearance and functionality of scars. It may help reduce pain, improve mobility, and relieve pressure on trapped nerves.
This work involves gently addressing scar tissue to reduce adhesions and tissue tension that may be pulling on nearby muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joint capsules. Scar tissue release can be effective for both new and old scars.
Sensitive or painful legs, and/or cellulite?
A multiple-pronged approach often works best. If this sounds like you, ask about our Pain Free Flow service, which combines fascial release, microcurrent, and MLD to soften and smooth the legs.
